Good Game Club goes live from Games for Change London with Anjali Bhimani on storytelling and the power of games to build positive communities

April 29, 2026

Good Game Club today releases a special live episode featuring actor, author and Games for Change Global Ambassador Anjali Bhimani.  It was recorded in front of a live audience at the inaugural Games for Change London Summit as part of the London Games Festival on April 15 and marked the podcast’s first live show.

In the episode, Bhimani argues that games create a sense of invitation, agency and emotional ownership that can turn characters into catalysts for confidence, belonging and community. “Storytelling in general, to me, is the most powerful tool we have for education, for building community, for healing,” she says.

Drawing on her experience as the voice of Symmetra in Overwatch, she reflects on why interactive storytelling can resonate more deeply than passive media for many players. “Games allow people on multiple levels to have that agency to tell their own story, to go on their own journey, to make their own decisions.”

One of the central themes of the conversation is the distinction between representation and inclusion. Bhimani explains that what matters is not only whether players can see themselves in a story, but whether they feel they have been welcomed into it. “It’s not just about seeing yourself represented on screen.  It’s about feeling invited to the party, feeling connected to the character,” she says.

The discussion explores how games communities form around shared lore, shared identity and shared participation, often creating relationships that extend beyond the game experience. “When people are playing as a hero … they can take that hero, put them in their heart and carry them out into the world.”

The episode also touches on creativity, vulnerability and authenticity in public-facing work. Bhimani speaks openly about the value of imperfect content and why communities often connect more strongly with work that feels human than work that feels over-processed. “Because it wasn’t perfect, it was true, it was human,” she says.
